Bedford, Texas may have a reputation as just another of Northeast Tarrant County’s bedroom communities, but the city has a history and a future based largely on its convenience.

Bedford residents may not know it, but they have Milton Moore and Weldon Bobo to thank for establishing their city, and they have a series of smart decisions through the decades to thanks for keeping it from being swallowed up by Hurst or Euless.

Bedford History

Today’s Bedford is noted for its convenient location that provides easy access to both Dallas and Fort Worth as well as D/FW International Airport. In the mid-1800s, however, it was the area’s location between Fort Worth and Grapevine that appealed to settlers, including Milton Moore who came from North Carolina and established the first school in what would later become Bedford.

In the 1870s, Weldon Bobo established a gristmill and general store. Bobo and many others in the developing community came from Bedford County in Tennessee, so they named the new community after it. By the end of the 1800s, Bedford had a population of more than 1,000 and was larger than any other town in Tarrant County other than Fort Worth.

When the rail line between Dallas and Fort Worth took a southern route and so did U.S. Highway 80 connecting the two cities, Bedford declined. It was the 1950s before Bedford soared again, incorporating to save itself from being taken in by Hurst or Euless.

Modern Bedford began developing in the 1970s when shopping, services and entertainment venues started to spring up.

Bedford Today

Located along Airport Freeway between Hurst and Euless, everywhere in the Metroplex is convenient to Bedford’s 47,000 residents. From a Bedford home, it’s easy to go to work in North Dallas and meet friends Saturday night in the Fort Worth Stockyards. It’s no problem to go to a Texas Rangers game in Arlington or catch a flight out of your nearby international airport.

Hurst, Euless and Bedford retain distinct identities today, but they share a chamber of commerce and the well-regarded Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District. In fact, HEB ISD is one among the top 10 percent of school systems nationwide.

Bedford residents are close enough to enjoy many of the amenities of other North Texas cities, and they can take pride in the Twilight Thursdays concerts during the spring and summer at Old Bedford School, the city’s parks including its largest one on the site of an old boys ranch and the Onstage theatre troupe.

When you call Bedford home, you’re joining tens of thousands of others who like the convenience, amenities and charm of this town. You’ll see for yourself how it’s more than a bedroom community.

To explore Bedford, look for its exits along Airport Freeway, including Brown Trail and Central Drive. For professional assistance locating a home of your own in Bedford, let me explain how exclusive buyer agents work. We work only with buyers, not with sellers.

Call me at (817) 735-4848, and take a few minutes to explore the Buyer’s Choice website too. You’ll be glad you did.

If you picture the next home of your own in a quintessentially American neighborhood that could have come right out of a Norman Rockwell painting, Fort Worth’s University Place might be for you. And if you expect a full range of shopping, dining and recreational activities just moments away, University Place is even more certainly a neighborhood you should consider.

Just north of Texas Christian University and only a few minutes from downtown, University Place is one of the best preserved and most beautiful small neighborhoods in town.

Getting To Know University Place

Just south of the Park Hill neighborhood and just north of the TCU campus sits a little gem called University Place. Bordered on the north by Park Hill Drive, on the west by University Drive, on the south by Cantey Street and on the east by Lubbock Avenue, University Place makes up for its small size with an overflowing dose of charm.

Most homes in the neighborhood were built in the 1920s and look just as they did then. In fact, the facades in University Place could be the most well-preserved in the city. Steeply pitched roofs and abundant charm are to be expected from the Tudor-style cottages and bungalows that squeeze into the area.

Add to those beautiful homes the mature trees — elm, cedar and pecan, mostly — and you start to understand just how characteristically American this neighborhood is. Never mind that some properties and their gardens would also look at home in a small English village.

Many of the neighborhood’s amenities come courtesy of TCU, including the miles of the sidewalks and park-like vistas you’ll experience on your evening walks. (For some quick info on TCU, see my recent post about the TCU area.) The campus is a masterpiece that adds value to your home. The university’s TCU-buff brick will soon become one of your favorite sites — unless your attention turns more toward the shopping and dining just a couple of minutes away by car at University and I-30.

Whether your tastes run toward Smashburger or the Silver Fox Steakhouse, there’s a restaurant for you on University. And if books, music and gifts get your attention, your University Place home is only moments from two Barnes and Noble stores. For the more tech-minded in your family, the Apple Store is waiting in the University Village shopping center for you.

Don’t worry, though. The University Place Homeowner’s Association and organizations in surrounding neighborhoods work to make sure these conveniences keep their distance. TCU’s master-planned campus helps maintain the integrity of the neighborhood too.

Let Me Show You University Place

Because I’m a buyer’s agent, I represent only home buyers, never sellers. That means I don’t have any properties to sell you. Instead, I use my decades of expertise in Fort Worth real estate to help you select a home of your own in the Metroplex neighborhood that’s perfect for you.

Even better, since I get a share of the selling agent’s fee, this service is available to you at no extra cost.

Please explore the Buyer’s Choice website for more about what I do, then email me at marion@homeofyourown.com. I’d like to help you find the next home of your own.

The TCU area of Fort Worth is obviously named because of its proximity to Texas Christian University, but the area’s appeal isn’t limited to professors and professional administrators.

Because of the neighborhood’s location only minutes from downtown, the Trinity Trails, many Fort Worth tourist attractions and the funky Berry Street corridor, just about anyone can find a reason to call the TCU area home.

Getting To Know TCU

TCU dominates University Drive as you approach Berry Street from the north, so if you’re considering a move to this area, it’s smart to get to know the university. The beautiful and pedestrian-friendly campus has developed over more than a hundred years and welcomes walkers and joggers from the neighborhood to its many sidewalks. The distinctive brick color you see around campus is called TCU buff, and the spire you see atop the campus is the steeple of Robert Carr Chapel.

TCU’s history dates to 1873 when its predecessor was founded in Fort Worth. But Fort Worth was a rowdy place in those days. The college’s founders thought a move to quiet Thorp Spring would suit them. Soon, they realized they needed easier access to a town, however, so they moved to Waco.

In 1910, a suspicious fire destroyed the administration building of what was then known as AddRan College. Fort Worth leaders offered the struggling school 56 acres and $200,000 to come back to Fort Worth. Texas Christian University has been in its present location ever since.

TCU is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), but the university sets its own policies. About 9,500 students participate in the many degree programs.

What Is The TCU Area?

Although some people use the term “TCU area” to refer to any neighborhood near the university, the term most accurately refers to the neighborhood to the east. Most homes in this area were built in the 1920s and 1930s and are small cottages on small lots. There may or may not be sidewalks in front of the homes. Pascal High School is included in the area that continues north to the massive and beautiful St. Stephen Presbyterian Church.

The neighborhoods on the other sides of TCU have names of their own, including Bellaire, Bluebonnet Hills, Colonial, University Place and University West.

From your home in the TCU area, you can enjoy long walks around the TCU campus and walk or bike to one of the many bars and restaurants along rapidly redeveloping Berry Street. The university’s presence assure a complete range of shopping and amenities, including a convenient Kroger at the southwest corner of University and Berry and the TCU Barnes and Noble, open to the public with free parking, at the northeast corner of the intersection.

If the TCU area sounds like an ideal place for the next home of your own, Buyer’s Choice can help you. Since I work with home buyers — never sellers — I have nothing listed to sell you. Instead, I help you get the best deal on a house that’s ideally suited to your needs.

Visit the Buyer’s Choice website, then call me at (817) 735-4848. Let’s discuss how I can help you find you a TCU area home of your own.

Fort Worth’s Park Hill neighborhood is a small and exclusive enclave that sits atop a bluff above the city’s biggest tourist attraction, the Fort Worth Zoo. There’s more for Park Hill residents to roar about than just the convenient and posh location, however.

Still, you can’t gloss over that important location. Located very near Texas Christian University and the redeveloping Berry Street corridor with its funky restaurants and vibrant nightlife, Park Hill has a dream location. It’s also only three miles from downtown.

A Little About Park Hill

The Park Hill neighborhood is located just north of Park Hill Drive and overlooks parts of Forest Park as well as the Fort Worth Zoo. It is made up of only a few horseshoe-shaped streets that circle around the bluff, all beginning and ending on Park Hill.

It’s small size is part of what make it one of Fort Worth’s most exclusive neighborhoods, but that’s not the only thing. The Park Hill Neighborhood Association works to keep Park Hill as it should be, and by all accounts, they’re doing a great job.

Development of the Park Hill neighborhood began in the mid-1920s. Soon, prominent business men, city movers and shakers and oilmen, of course, poured into the new development. More than 20 historically significant homes still exist in the neighborhood. There are also historically interesting street lights, tile street name insets and entrance gates to mark the neighborhood.

For several decades, the Fort Worth Free Baby Hospital occupied part of Park Hill, but it was demolished in the late 1950s after a more modern children’s hospital was established in Fort Worth. This area on Winton Terrace West is now taken up by some beautiful ranch-style residences.

Today, you’ll find Tudor Revival homes and Spanish-style dwellings in Fort Worth’s Park Hill. Many homes are two story and some even have basements, a relative rarity in the Metroplex.

There are very few businesses or shops in Park Hill, but a small shopping center at the corner of University and Park Hill includes the Park Hill Cafe, a perfect place to get sandwiches, salads and other handmade fresh foods at lunch — and even gourmet dinners some evenings.

Let An EBA Smooth The Home-Buying Road

As an exclusive buyer agent, I work with homebuyers to help you get the best deal on the home that best meets your needs. Sellers have real estate agents working for them to make sure they get the best prices for their homes, so it makes sense that buyers should have someone on their side too.

Buyer’s agents like me represent only homebuyers and do everything we can to smooth the home-buying road for you.

Please explore the Buyer’s Choice website, including the 12 Benefits of Working with Buyer’s Choice Agents. Then, if you think I can be of assistance to you, call me at (817) 735-4848. I’m looking forward to helping you find a home of your own in North Texas.

Not far from downtown, just northwest of the new West 7th development and within walking distant to the Cultural District, Monticello deserves its grand name and great reputation.

Imagine being able to walk to the Amon Carter Museum of Modern Art from your home or attend an event at Will Rogers Memorial Center without dealing with parking hassles. It’s possible from many parts of Monticello.

A safe, clean and exclusive neighborhood that’s close to everything you need for daily living as well as evenings out on the town may seem like too much ask for, but Monticello really does have Fort Worth’s best location — and more.

Getting To Know Monticello

Monticello includes much of the heart of Fort Worth’s popular and eclectic west side. Bordered on the south by Camp Bowie Blvd., on the north by White Settlement Rd., on the east by University Dr. and on the west by Hillcrest St., the neighborhood includes the UNT Health Science Center and part of the new West 7th development.

When peace and quiet comes with convenience, world-class institutions nearby and modern new entertainment destinations right down the street, you know you’re getting something special.

Generally, Monticello includes beautiful historic bungalows and striking cottages, but this established neighborhood also features a number of one-off houses that will surprise you. Some of the homes, especially along 7th Street, have been converted to boutique restaurants and quaint shops as well.

While homes in this area can sometimes be pricey, good deals are available. The convenience and charm of this neighborhood is generally considered worth the price.

Thanks to some new development at the corner of Camp Bowie and University, fine dining and luxury condos are now part of Fort Worth’s Monticello neighborhood. These buildings, completed only a few years ago, were the beginning of the West 7th resurgence happening from this intersection eastward.

Just across Camp Bowie from Monticello are Fort Worth’s three world-class museums, the Modern, the Kimbell and the Amon Carter. The Will Rogers Memorial Center and the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History are just behind these three gems.

If you’re interested in exploring Fort Worth’s trendiest venues and most renown cultural attractions but like to go home to a quaint cottage instead of a cramped apartment or sprawling estate, Monticello could be perfect for you.

How A Buyer’s Agent Can Help You

As an exclusive buyer agent, I work only for home buyers, not for sellers. When you allow Buyer’s Choice Realtors to assist you in your home-buying process, you’re putting one of Fort Worth’s most experience real estate professionals on your side.

I’ve spent four decades in Fort Worth, so I’ve learned how to navigate the Fort Worth home market with ease. When you work with Buyer’s Choice, my experience as a home designer and traditional real estate agent before becoming a buyer’s agent are at your disposal too.

Please look around the Buyer’s Choice website, then call me at (817) 735-4848. I’d like to show you what it means when I say: 100% Percent Loyalty to the Home Buyer, 100% of the Time!
