Dickies Arena Takes Shape, And It Will Expand Your Options Next Year

Whether you’ve lived in Fort Worth for decades or are considering moving here for a new job or when you retire, you need something to do during your downtime. With live music venues everywhere plus so many small theatres, the majestic Bass Hall and more, you might think Fort Worth has more than enough entertainment venues. But what about big events – and sports? There’s no large, modern arena to attract large-scale concerts and major sporting events.

Dickies Arena at the Will Rogers Memorial Center aims to change that – and it’s scheduled to open in November 2019. Now’s the time to talk about Dickies Arena – named for the work clothing brand – however. It’s rising above Montgomery Street, leading to utility improvements and a completely new surface and look for the formerly well-worn, industrial-looking street.

Getting To Know Dickies Arena

Envisioned as a rival for the American Airlines Center in Dallas and a home to rodeo events of the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo, the idea is to book up the venue year-round and not just use it for the month-long rodeo.

In addition to entertainment and sporting events, planners hope for conventions, business meetings, exhibits and even private receptions. While the multipurpose arena will hold 14,000 people, event spaces of 685 to 91,315 square feet will be available. The arena will feature luxury suites, boxes and clubs as well. Expect four lobbies, two dining areas and more than 5,000 parking spaces – including over 2,200 in the new garage.

Fort Worth business Ed Bass spearheaded the project, which is a public-private partnership. Once completed, the facility will be managed by the City of Fort Worth. Planners point out that a facility of this size and type doesn’t exist anywhere on the Fort Worth side of the Metroplex – including Weatherford and Denton.

Bringing In Visitors Supports Locals

The Fort Worth economy depends on visitors of many types, and a new arena will bring even more people to Fort Worth to spend money at our businesses. But it’s more than an economic amenity. Dickies Arena is expected to enhance the quality of life for Fort Worth residents by bringing in more high-quality entertainment options.

Fort Worth is a great place that keeps getting better. As you watch the Dickies Arena take shape over the reimagined Montgomery Street, consider what it means to our future. I believe it’s another reason that Fort Worth has a bright and hopeful future that can include you.
